Connecting the cooker cable to the mains supply is the last part of this project.
Installing cooker cable.
Cookers requiring more than 3kw which includes many freestanding electric cookers will need to be hardwired into a higher rated dedicated circuit with a separate cooker on off switch.
The cooker s power cable consists of 3 differently colored wires.
If you re fitting an electric range cooker you ll need at least a 32 amp outlet to connect electric cookers consuming more than 3kw that s most range cookers and a 6mm cable.
If you feel competent enough in diy you can wire your cooker into an existing circuit yourself but if no suitable circuit exists you will need to have a new.
You should also turn the power off at the cooker control unit if it has a switch.
If this is a gas range installation don t assume that having gas central heating will mean you have a range cooker gas connection.
When connecting a cooker or working on any electrical circuit the appropriate fuse in the fuse box or consumer unit should be withdrawn or turned off before you do anything.
So before installing the cooker at your desired location free it from any materials that are even remotely flammable such as wood wallpaper overhanging boiler etc.
Look for a blue neutral wire that fits into the upper right terminal.
